Kendrick did a surprise release of his much anticipated 6th album today. GNX which has already shot to #1 on the US Apple Music Charts. The album comes after a stellar year on the charts from battling with Drake spawning the biggest #1 summer anthem “Not Like Us”.
GNX is actually a high-performance Buick coup which is symbolic of how the rapper sees himself, which is also the album cover artwork of Kendrick leaning on a GNX.
The 12-track album leads off with Wacced Out Murals. Features guest spots by SZA, mariachi singer Deyra Barrera & Dody6. Some productions by Jack Antonoff, Sounwave, and Kamasi Washington.
The album doesn’t disappoint as it is a bold rhythmic stomp on mediocrity and empty bravado. With him being a Superbowl halftime show performer the excitement of what that will be is even more heightened.
Kendrick seems on a mission to bring back rap both lyrically, storytelling, and with a vibe that shouts you will hear me. We are listening intently.
